Naomi Adler, a 37-year-old mother of two, has struggled with obesity since the age of five. Diagnosed with PCOS at 14, she spent her early adult years trying every diet she could find — from vegan to raw vegan to Weight Watchers — but nothing ever seemed to bring her body into balance.
“I think the initial eating was emotionally based, and then it became a comfort,” Naomi said.
“I never felt that I had any control over what I put in my mouth.”
The Motivation: A Third Child
Naomi’s turning point came when she realized that if she wanted to have another child, she’d have to prioritize her health.
She had gained 80 pounds (36 kg) during each of her two pregnancies, reaching 286 pounds (130 kg) by the end of the second one.
“I wanted to be a healthy mom for my kids and to get pregnant again,” she explained.
“I knew my body wouldn’t be able to handle the stress of pregnancy with all the excess weight I was carrying. I decided that having another baby was more important than the food I liked.”
From Elimination to Education
Naomi started small by eliminating gluten and desserts, which worked for a while. But after watching The Pill on Netflix, she realized she needed a more profound, lasting change — not just for fertility, but to prevent future disease.
With zero knowledge of keto beforehand, Naomi dove headfirst into learning. She discovered Dr. Berg’s videos on YouTube, took notes, and watched them over and over again.
“I learned how to start keto and intermittent fasting, the importance of healthy fats, how to use blood tests to monitor my health, and most importantly, that keto is not a diet — it’s a lifestyle,” she said.
Full Support, Full Commitment
On July 28, 2019, Naomi and her husband began keto together — and they’ve supported each other every step of the way.
“The only thing I would have done differently is start sooner,” she said.
Naomi now eats twice a day, fasts effortlessly, and no longer feels enslaved by cravings or the next meal.
“There’s no comparison between who I was before and who I am now,” she said.
“I’ve healed my food addiction and have complete control over what I eat. I have so much more energy and joy in my life.”
The Challenges and Wins
One of the toughest parts of her journey? Sourcing high-quality protein and vegetables — but she’s up for the challenge.
“Seeing the numbers drop, getting compliments, not feeling anxious about food, and knowing that I don’t need to think about the next meal while eating the current one — those are some of the best parts,” she said.
Naomi’s Words of Encouragement:
“Find your why and understand this is a process.
One person’s way of doing keto may not work for you — and that’s okay.
This is a lifelong journey. You’ll have days when you want fruit, cake, or pasta. If you have it, move on. Be kind to yourself and return to keto right after.Be proud that you’re doing the absolute best for your body, mind, life, and family.”
Naomi’s story is a powerful reminder that self-transformation is possible when you commit to your health and align your actions with your priorities. She didn’t just lose weight — she gained energy, control, joy, and the ability to live life on her terms.
