Life before Keto:  

Carey was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2008, causing him to retire at age 53. During follow-up appointments and various tests, doctors also found that he was suffering from lesions and abdominal aneurysms. It’s safe to say that Carey’s health wasn’t very good.  

After finding Keto:  

In November 2017, Carey underwent extensive surgery to repair the aneurysms and was told that he wouldn’t have an appetite for up to three months. “My wife Katrina had wanted to do keto for a long time. She had been following Dr. Berg for months,” he said. “She knew how bad I had eaten my whole life. Since I didn’t have an appetite, I didn’t fight her on giving it a try.” Since then, he’s never looked back.  

Now, Carey reports that he’s feeling great. He’s thrilled to be wearing the same sizes he wore in high school. The couple has watched all of Dr. Berg’s videos, and they take advantage of the supplements he offers, applying them to support their personal lifestyles and to aid in good health.  

Carey feels empowered, knowing he has the tools from Dr. Berg to gain control of his health instead of relying on the medical profession and pharmaceutical companies. “We learn from him daily!” says Carey of Dr. Berg.  

Challenges:  

For Carey, it was tough to be patient and let his body heal before seeing the weight come off. But with the support of his wife and encouraged by others’ success on keto, he persisted. And he took this challenge as an opportunity to recapture his health. “The only regret I can think of is not knowing all this thirty years ago,” Careysaid.  

Health improvements:  

Since February 2018, Carey has lost 62 pounds (28 kg) and still counting. “If I can do it, anyone can do it. I used to be a pasta- and dessert-eating freak,” he said. “It’s amazing how all that goes away once you remove sugar and white flour from your diet.”  

Carey is looking forward to his next doctor’s appointment to see how much his medical conditions have improved on the keto diet: “If not for my wife, I probably wouldn’t be here today. I believe as time goes on, I will be able to say the same for Dr. Berg.”  

Carey reports that out of all Dr. Berg’s strategies, advice, and tips, something he learned that helped him the most is intermittent fasting and autophagy.

Bike riding.  

Favorite Keto Recipe:  

“I make a lot of dishes with spaghetti squash and various other squashes,” says Carey. “I also incorporate a variety of fresh mushrooms and garlic into the dishes.”
