My postpartum journey has lead me to IF and Keto and I’m learning a TON from Dr. Berg. I’ve been diagnosed with hypothyroidism since 2013 but it wasn’t until I had my daughter that I had a major autoimmune flare up (about 6-9 months postpartum) I was tested for rheumatoid arthritis which was negative, but no there was no additional follow up and the symptoms of fatigue and extreme stiffness in my joints subsided after about 3 months. Then I had my son two years later and the same thing happened around the same time postpartum. This time I really dug into what can trigger autoimmune issues and found that wheat for starters is poison. I dropped wheat and all grains for a week and my symptoms dramatically improved. I should mention that I’ve been at a healthy weight and BMI since my thyroid hormone was corrected. I worked out my entire pregnancy and postpartum. Although it’s always nice to feel like you look your best, weight wasn’t my main driver... My health and energy and ultimately to protect my children from disease was and is paramount. Once I added more fat into my diet I was able to have sustained energy and focus. Toddler tantrums don’t phase me and in fact since my children started eating higher fats and lower carbs they have been much happier. They don’t get irritable because they don’t need snacks to sustain them. In the beginning it was a little challenging to get around the incessant begging for mac & cheese and chicken nuggets, but after about 3 days we were all on the same page. It’s actually fun to find new ways of incorporating lots of veggies into their diet...my favorite right now is the broccoli fritters from Dr. Bergs YouTube channel, ah-mazing! You can’t put a price tag on being the best mom you can be for your kids, and having all the energy to keep up with them. Started June 2020: 5’5, 140 lbs, measurements: 35/29.5/39 Today July 27 2020: 134 lbs 34/28/38 and feeling amazing
