Gary Nixon's Story

Images Story

By: Gary Nixon

As a former police officer, Gary Nixon never worried about his weight until an injury prevented him from exercising in the ways he once could. He developed poor eating habits which eventually led to diabetes. Combined with his injuries, diabetes left him unable to move around at all.

“I was as heavy as 400 pounds (181 kg),” Nixon said. “After almost 20 years of [gaining weight], my wife and kids became very concerned about my health.” Knowing his family had a history of early deaths, he was determined not to let that kind of surprise happen to him.

Nixon found Dr. Berg’s videos after doing research on how he could change his eating habits and begin a lifestyle that he could maintain for the rest of his life. In other words, he didn’t want another fad diet. From Dr. Berg, he learned about intermittent fasting and how Fat Storing Hormone works. “Dr. Berg’s videos changed my life,” he said.

Nixon described feeling like a different person. He thanked his faith and his family for support during his journey with keto. He’s no longer taking any medication. Today, he said, he has more energy than he’s had in the last 20 years.

For Nixon, the hardest part about losing weight was the lack of knowledge. “And having to buy several sets of clothes,” he said with a laugh. But with Dr. Berg’s guidance, he’s had great success. He wishes he had started the process a lot sooner.

Although he says he still has a long way to go, he has lost 145 pounds (66 kg) since starting keto. He wants to share this way of eating with everyone he knows. “It’s never too late to change your life,” Nixon advised. “It takes hard work but it is worth every minute of it.”
