Story

By: Harsh Kumar Mittal

I am 68 years old, vegetarian Indian male. My name is Harsh Kumar Mittal. For the last 20 years, I have had high blood pressure and was on medication. For the last 10 years, my HBA1C had been hovering around 6.2. Around 3 years back, I started getting pain and numbness in the soles of my feet and consulted a neuro specialist. I took medications but never got any results. Around 2 years back, I chanced upon some videos by Dr. Berg while surfing the internet for nerve pain. At this time my diet was typically Indian food which is generally high carb. I started making the changes suggested by Dr. berg. It was challenging as I am a vegetarian. I followed a low-carb diet, increased my protein from sources like cottage cheese and legumes complementing it with intermittent fasting(18:6). I eliminated sugar and processed carbs completely but continued to consume some whole grains. Also in between for some time I went very low carb. I now fast for 18 hours every day and have two meals in the 6-hour window. I am very happy to tell you that today I am 20kg lighter, my HBA1C is down to 5.6, my sugar postprandial is 94 and I am nearly off my blood pressure medicine. I also take long walks everyday and have improved upon my speed of walking. I feel fit and full of energy. Even though the discomfort in the soles is still there, but I am hopeful that it will also be healed in due time( as suggested by Dr. berg in one of his videos that it take 2 to 3 years to heal). To anyone going for the keto diet, my advice would only be to keep on doing it consistently. Sometimes the scale might not show the results but the healing is going on in the body. Also, it appears more challenging in the beginning, than it actually is. Once you start following it, it is very easy. Thank you Dr. Berg for helping me to achieve health, which at one point in my life I thought was impossible.
