What were you struggling with before making this change?
For years, I struggled with my weight despite trying many of the things people typically recommend. I felt frustrated, exhausted, and increasingly convinced that something about my body wasn’t working the way it should. I dealt with cravings, low energy, difficulty losing weight, and a constant cycle of trying harder only to see limited results.
At my heaviest, I reached 283 pounds. I had begun to believe that long-term success might not be possible for me. More than the weight itself, I felt disconnected from my body and frustrated that my effort didn’t seem to match my results.
How long did it take to notice results?
I noticed improvements in my energy, hunger, and cravings within the first few weeks.
Physical changes came more gradually, but within a few months, I could tell my body was responding differently. The biggest changes happened over the course of a year as I focused on consistency rather than quick results.
The most meaningful improvements weren’t just on the scale—they were improvements in how I felt, moved, slept, and performed physically.

One of my proudest accomplishments has been becoming a regular CrossFit athlete. I now train consistently and am able to do things physically that would have seemed impossible just a couple of years ago.
What challenges did you face when starting?
The biggest challenge was changing my mindset. For years, I believed my problem was a lack of willpower. Learning that there were underlying metabolic factors involved forced me to rethink everything I thought I knew about weight loss.
I also had to let go of the idea that faster was better. Progress wasn’t always linear, and there were plenty of weeks where the scale didn’t move even though positive changes were happening.
How did you overcome them?
I focused on learning instead of blaming myself.
I worked with a metabolic specialist and learned about insulin resistance, began tracking important health markers, prioritized protein, reduced sugar and highly processed foods, and committed to consistent strength training.
Most importantly, I stopped looking for a quick fix and started building habits I could maintain long-term.
I learned to measure my success by more than the scale. Strength, energy, lab improvements, body composition, and how I felt became just as important as weight loss.
What does your routine look like now?
I wake up early and attend CrossFit several mornings each week. I prioritize protein at every meal and focus on whole foods while limiting sugar and highly processed carbohydrates. I walk daily, stay active, and pay attention to recovery, sleep, and stress management.
Instead of constantly dieting, I focus on fueling my body well and building strength.

What advice would you give someone starting in this area?
Don’t assume your body is broken, and don’t assume your struggles are because you aren’t trying hard enough. Take the time to learn what is happening beneath the surface. Focus on building habits you can sustain for years, not weeks.
Strength training changed my life. Prioritizing protein changed my life. Learning how metabolism works changed my life.
Most importantly, be patient. Some of the biggest changes happen long before they’re visible in the mirror.
Any other details you want to share?
One of the most powerful changes was shifting my identity. For years, I described myself as overweight and out of shape. Today, I see myself as strong, athletic, and capable. That mindset shift changed everything.
This journey taught me that health isn’t about punishment. It’s about giving your body what it needs to thrive.
At one point, I thought weight-loss medication or surgery might be my only option. Today, I train CrossFit, have lost over 75 pounds, have added muscle, dramatically improved my health markers, and continue getting stronger. My goal was never to become smaller. My goal was to become stronger.
