Did you have any problems with your weight or health before going on keto?
My weight was pretty even (between 140-150 lbs.) until I got to my upper 30s/early 40s and started having kids (foster care/adoption).
I went through a very scary period during COVID-19 where I almost lost my mom. I spent 14 days with her in the hospital, and then she had to rehab at my house for 70 days. This experience, added on top of the life I already had, threw my body into a cycle of chaos. The high stress caused me to gain almost 17 more lbs. that I could not get off. And I was already up about 10 lbs. after having kids, which I couldn’t get off. I was really frustrated. My daughter wanted to do a 5 K, so I trained with her for 2 months and thought that would help bring down my weight. I lost ONE pound!
How did you discover keto?
My doctor told me my labs were showing I was at risk for hypothyroidism, but also my vitamin D levels weren’t ideal. I started researching online how I could balance my thyroid naturally, and came across Dr. Berg’s videos. I started by taking more vitamin D and asked if I could come back in a few months to check it, and it did support my thyroid levels quite a bit!
Then after what I would say was a severe gallbladder attack after a weekend at Bible Camp, I couldn’t eat for 2 days. At that point, I decided to bite the bullet and just go on keto and IF since I was already likely in ketosis. I also did a gallbladder cleanse and passed a gallstone about the size of a garden slug. After that, my gallbladder issues, headaches, the right arm pain, and the achiness improved overnight!
How has your health improved since you started keto?
In my first month, I lost 13 lbs. by following keto and IF. In my second month, I lost 8, and in my last month, I lost 6. For a total so far of 27 lbs.! I am now less than 2 lbs.away from being in a healthy weight range according to the recommended weight scale. And I’m back very close to the weight I used to be for years. My clothes all fit better, and I feel 10 years younger! It’s amazing how the weight just melts off, and I have no cravings or hunger pangs!
After my hormone test results, I was given a list of things I could supplement with to correct my hormonal imbalances, and I have been consistent with that also. I feel like a new woman!
