Life before keto:
Crystal Sales’ lifetime struggle with weight loss put her on a rollercoaster of weight fluctuations. After having her third child, it seemed like the number on the scale wouldn’t budge at all.
Sales wasn’t sure if being old and postpartum had anything to do with it. “I was sick of being sick, tired, and not having energy.”
Finding keto:
Sales started keto on May 1, 2018, after a good friend mentioned it and encouraged her to watch “The Magic Pill.” Once she got started, her children were a big motivation for her to lose weight because she wanted more energy for them.
While researching keto recipes, Sales stumbled upon Dr. Berg’s videos and wished she had found his information at the beginning of her keto journey. “It wasn’t until his videos that I understood more about fat-storing hormone resistance and the benefits of fasting,” she said.
Challenges:
At the start of her journey, she found it difficult to fit meal prepping into her schedule. That is, until she started getting used to keto as a lifestyle change. Her schedule means being home during the day and working at night, so figuring out a successful routine was her biggest challenge with keto.
Health improvements:
“I am a hairstylist, so I am on my feet all day, and I was in a lot of pain before,” said Sales. “Now I feel amazing!”
In just a little over a year, she has lost 100 pounds (45 kg); she only has 10 more pounds (5 kg) to lose to meet her goal weight. “The best part is feeling healthy, having more energy, and clothes that fit,” she said.
“Give keto an honest good try and don’t give up,” she advises. “It’s worth it, and you’ll feel so much better.”
Favorite ways to exercise:
“Walking and being outdoors with my children.”
Favorite keto recipe:
“I don’t have a favorite recipe per se,” said Sales. “I tend to stick to my favorite foods: lettuce wrap burgers and tacos, keto pizza, chicken wings, and salads.”
