Life before keto:
Andrew Dunn had struggled with his weight for many years. When he was 12, he was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that causes severe joint pain, and just when that condition lessened, his weight gain began.
“At 25, I was free from pain but started to struggle with weight loss,” said Dunn. “At age 30, I had jumped to 242 pounds (110 kg); at age 40, I was 264 pounds (120 kg); and by June 2018, at age 50, I reached 297 pounds (135 kg) and was battling pre-diabetic symptoms but had no idea why.”
After he fell down the stairs and required his son’s assistance to get back up, Dunn began researching gut health on the internet.
Dunn was sent the link to Dr. Berg’s YouTube channel by a friend, and he subscribed in March 2019. This friend became Dunn’s initial support system, having lost 110 pounds (50 kg) himself. Dunn said these results “amazed” him. His family was also supportive throughout his keto journey.
After finding keto:
Dunn claimed that once he overcame the hardest parts of this lifestyle, which were simply starting and understanding why it worked, he found himself feeling good; in fact, he had never felt so good before.
The first Dr. Berg video that Dunn watched made a lot of sense to him. It was Dr. Berg’s statement, “You must get healthy first, then you will lose the weight.” This was the major lesson he learned, and the motto stuck with him during the weight-loss process.
“I feel amazing,” he said. “The best parts are understanding what created my issues, not being addicted to carbs and sugar, feeling in control, and no longer being depressed.”
Health improvements:
In less than a year of living a keto lifestyle, Dunn lost 127 pounds (58 kg). He was motivated by Dr. Berg’s videos and by focusing on showing his kids, for the first time in their lives, that he can be healthy.
If he could do things all over again, Dunn said he would avoid all sugar and carbs. But, to anyone thinking about trying keto, he advises them to go for it. “You will get results,” he said.
