Did you have any problems with your weight or health before going on keto?
My name is Mike Pulvermacher, age 59, from Oshkosh, Wisconsin. I have been 100 pounds overweight for much of my adult life and struggled with cholesterol issues. Like many, I have tried every type of diet from low-carb to vegetarian to lose weight, and always gain it back again.
3 years ago, I spent Christmas Day in the hospital, worried I was having a heart attack. My blood pressure was very elevated, and the doctor said it was white coat syndrome. I kept asking why my blood pressure was suddenly high after never having high blood pressure. What is the root cause? I never received a good answer. In a follow-up visit, my general practitioner put me on blood pressure medication and water pills.
2 years ago, I had another health scare and asked what I should do for a diet, and the answer was to eat low-carb. I was eating a low-carb diet, but I wasn’t losing weight.
Just before New Year’s Day 2023, I became scared for my life, having heart pains and elevated blood pressure. On New Year’s Day 2023, I told my wife that I need to make changes, or I won’t be around to see my grandsons grow up.
How did you discover keto?
I spent many days researching ways to clean out my arteries and reduce inflammation. This is when I came across so many excellent informational videos by Dr. Berg on YouTube. There was so much good information, and he helped me finally understand some of my issues. High insulin creates a fatty liver and insulin resistance.
I immediately started one meal a day (OMAD), eating a Healthy Keto diet. In 3 weeks, I started feeling better, and my heart issues stopped.
How has your health improved since you started keto?
9 months later, I lost 65 pounds. I feel so much better with so much more energy and stamina. Even my dentist commented on how much my gums have improved.
Does exercise play a role in your success on keto? If so, how?
I get up at 5:30 AM and do a 20-minute kettlebell workout 2 or 3 times per week, giving myself at least 1 recovery day. I go for a 30-minute walk every day.
How does an average day of eating/fasting look for you on keto?
I consume a scoop of Dr. Berg’s Electrolyte Power every morning for potassium, salts, and trace minerals. I eat 1 meal at suppertime. A typical meal is a spinach/arugula salad, eggs, grass-fed protein, and cruciferous vegetables. I try to get salmon and sauerkraut in one meal per week. With the meal, I drink apple cider vinegar in water with lemon juice and take vitamin K2/D3, turmeric, cod liver oil, and Dr. Berg’s Advanced Immune support.
Any other details you want to share?
My goal is to lose 100 pounds. When I stop losing weight, I go 2 days before eating, and it seems to get things moving again.
I want to thank Dr. Berg for creating so many great informational videos. I watch 2 every morning with my tea. This education has helped me get a second chance at life.
I recommend eating the healthy keto plan with a focus on good nutrition, and it will change your life.
