Did you have any problems with your weight or health before going on keto?
On January 7, 2018, I decided that I was going to start exercising again, eating less, and finally lose the weight I had been struggling with for the previous 5 years. I weighed myself and was shocked to find that my 5’7″ frame weighed 197 pounds. I weighed 2 pounds more than I had when I was full-term pregnant with my son, and even though I had been exercising quite intensely, I had rapidly, over the course of 18 months, gained 30 pounds.
I had tried everything I could think of; the 21-day fix, Weight Watchers, counting calories on my fitness pal, and of course, nothing worked, and I just kept gaining weight. As a kinesiologist, I was embarrassed because I was supposed to be an expert in health and wellness, and yet I couldn’t seem to get my own body to be healthy and fit.
How did you discover keto?
Finally, one day, someone I knew posted a picture of themselves after taking exogenous ketones. They looked great, and so I looked up exogenous ketones and ended up going down the rabbit hole of ketone research and stumbled upon Dr. Berg. I devoured every video I could find, and anytime I had a question about something, I googled it with the name Dr. Berg following.
I was not a believer in taking exogenous ketones, so I changed the way I ate, and when I ate following Dr. Berg’s advice, I began to see immediate results. I also stopped working out intensely at the gym and only walked 10 K steps a day.
How has your health improved since you started keto?
Within about 2.5 weeks (and after the initial water weight drop), I started to see a consistent loss of about 0.4 pounds per day, and it just kept coming off. Between April 11 and July 13, 2018, I lost 33 pounds from following a ketogenic diet with intermittent fasting. In total, I was down 40 pounds from 197 lbs. to 157 lbs., just in time for my 40th birthday!
As a full-time single mom to a 4 and 6-year-old, I have since then easily kept the weight off by continuing to live a ketogenic lifestyle. My energy is up, I sleep through the night (as long as my kids don’t wake me up), and I no longer have brain fog.
Does exercise play a role in your success on keto? If so, how?
Recently, I started exercising again and am working towards some fitness goals, which are so much easier now that I’m not packing an extra 40 pounds on my body.
Any other details you want to share?
I’m also using my degree and newfound knowledge to start my own health and wellness coaching business so I can help others achieve the health that I now have.
I’m so grateful to Dr. Berg and all of his information. It has truly been life-changing!
