Today we’re going to talk about what could cause gout in your big toe. Gout is a situation where you have uric acid crystals that are depositing in certain joints, causing pain.

Researchers have difficulty understanding what causes gout because the minority of people with gout attacks have high uric acid. Most gout attacks occur when people have normal levels of uric acid.

The uric acid crystals are also not in the area of inflammation. They believe the immune system is reacting to the uric acid crystals and then creating inflammation.

People with gout typically have a difficult time eliminating uric acid from the kidney. This could be from various things, including weak kidneys, diabetes, and insulin resistance.

Gout attacks also typically occur at night after consuming certain things, such as:

• Alcohol (especially beer)

• Meat

• Seafood

• Organ meats

• Fructose

The uric acid crystals that are depositing in the body are dependent on pH and temperature. If your pH is too acidic or your temperature is a little cooler, you may get more gout flare-ups. Your toes are typically the coldest part of your body.

Potential remedies for gout:

1. Celery

2. Coffee (only 1 cup in the morning per day)

3. Tart cherry

4. Lemon

5. Consume more vegetables and keep your protein moderate

Fasting can increase uric acid. When you fast, you recycle certain proteins, which can increase uric acid. But, uric acid is actually one of the most powerful antioxidants in the blood. As your fasting, you’re increasing uric acid to act as one of the antioxidants in the healing process.
