In this video, we’re going to talk about what the color of your phlegm can potentially tell you.

What is phlegm? Phlegm is mucus produced by the respiratory system. This is typically from the lungs, not your sinuses.

When you cough up your phlegm, this is called sputum.

Your body produces around one liter of phlegm each day. When you have an infection, it can be much more than one liter.

What color is your phlegm? Take a look at what your phlegm color can potentially say.

• White/clear: Allergies or asthma

• Dark yellow: Mild infection

• Green: Severe infection

• Black: Fungal infection

• Brown: Lung disease

• Grey: Smoker

• Pink/red: Nose bleeds, dry respiratory system, lung cancer (rare), or tuberculosis

Bacterial infections may cause phlegm for 10 to 14 days. If it’s a viral infection, it can cause phlegm for more than 14 days.

There are some remedies that can help thin your phlegm and potentially help clear it up.

The best remedies for phlegm are:

• Zinc (50mg/day)

• Vitamin D3 (10,000 IU/day)

• Fenugreek
