What is a TDEE calculator?

TDEE stands for total daily energy expenditure. A TDEE calculator helps you determine how much energy (calories) you burn each day when accounting for physical activity.

What is the purpose of a TDEE calculator?

Your TDEE can be used to estimate the number of calories you need to consume daily to maintain your current weight. Consuming fewer calories than your estimated TDEE can result in weight loss. Consuming more calories than your estimated TDEE can be useful for building lean muscle mass.

How is TDEE calculated?

We calculate your TDEE by first establishing your BMR (basal metabolic rate) using the Mifflin-St. Jeor equation. This requires your gender, age, height, and weight. Then, our calculator multiplies your BMR by your activity level to get your TDEE.

What is BMR?

BMR stands for basal metabolic rate. This is an estimate of the calories you burn without any physical activity. To put it simply, BMR is the amount of fuel your engine (body) burns while idling (resting). If you were resting in bed all day, this is about the number of calories your body will use.

Why do you need my activity level?

Your activity level is essential for calculating your TDEE. As your physical activity increases, so do the number of calories you burn. TDEE is the total of all the energy you use each day, including physical activity (walking, running, sports, manual labor, etc.).
