Back in late November 2017 my PCP gave me an ultimatum. Correct these issues yourself through diet and exercise or I'll put you on medication. He gave me 6 months. I was pre-diabetes, high cholesterol, hypothyroid (pre-condition) and a fatty liver. I was also 198 lbs, 5'7" and 52 yrs old... I was going to the gym for a year and didn't lose a pound. I was wondering how I was going to correct all that. One night I was Youtubing my normal channels and for some reason out of the blue, Dr. Berg's channel was in the recommended viewing. I've never seen or heard of him. But saw Keto and Intermittent Fasting. I knew what fasting was, but not Keto. So I visited his channel In hindsight, I was meant to see his channel at that time by some force other than Youtube. I spent about a week of watching all the videos and soaking in all the information. What foods to eat and not, What foods to combine and not, ACV 3x daily, how to intermittent fast and so on.... I watched other sites on the subject, but most get way too technical. Dr. Berg explains it in layman's terms where you can understand. And it all made sense. I realized it wasn't my gym workout that wasn't working, it was the foods I was putting in my body. On December 8th I started my road to a new me. I did a 3 day water, black coffee and ACV fast. I wanted to reset my metabolism. Day one was the hardest with hunger. 2-3 not bad at all. Very little hunger and ACV help get rid of any hunger. On the 4th day, I broke my fast by having one banana to get my digestive system use food again. At this point, I already started to notice I had more energy On the 5th day, I followed Dr. Berg Keto and Intermittent fasting. I put into practice what I learned. I ate twice a day between 12:30 - 1:30 pm and 5:30 - 6:30 pm. No snacks at all in-between. I fasted from 6:30 PM until 12:30 PM the next day. I kept the Carbs and Sugars as close to zero as possible. I ate meat, fish, eggs, chicken and a load of leafy greens. I stopped going out for meals and learned to cook everything myself with olive oil, coconut oil and real butter. Said goodbye to bread, cakes, and candies and hello to organic foods (as much as possible). I learned how to make Keto Almond Flour bread. I learned how to read food labels correctly and know what is in food if I do have to go out to eat so that I can make the right choices, with minimal adverse effect on my new lifestyle. After 6 months of doing Keto and Intermittent fasting and since my last blood workup in November 2017: * I lost 47 lbs, I am now 151 lbs * Brought my high cholesterol total from well over 200 down to 179, (80 HDL, 85 LDL) And Keto encourages, no/low carbs and sugars, More protein, healthy fish/animal/oil fats and a lot of veggies. So that myth Keto causes high cholesterol is debunked. * My Glucose was high and I was considered pre-diabetes. Now, I'm at a normal mid-range level and not pre-diabetes. * Even my Thyroid levels T3/T4 are borderline high, Meaning, my Dr may eventually have to reduce my thyroid medication as my increased metabolic rate is putting mine in the Hyper range instead of years of Hypothyroidism. Who knows, I keep this up, I can get off that medication. All my other test levels are mid-range. My PCP was amazed at the transformation. He asked how I did it. And I told him, Keto and Intermittent fasting. He knew what it was and told me to keep it up... If followed correctly, Keto and Intermittent fasting works. And the best part is that it's really not a sacrifice. You eat well and eat smart. I feel so much better now than before. More energy and stamina and I look healthier.
