From A Plateau to Keto

At age 5/6 I developed asthma. The doctors prescribed an awful-tasting yellow liquid medicine that was a steroid. They told my mother to watch me closely because it would increase my appetite. My mother had six children and had a full load. I got very chubby and hated it as I was teased at school. I have battled my weight all my life. I went on the Atkins diet when I was in middle school and have tried every diet known to man ever since. I had periods of being "thinner" but mostly I've been overweight. The older I got the more difficult it became to keep my weight down. Every time I tried a new diet I'd be hopeful that "This is the one". But as usual, I'd lose some weight but would plateau and no matter what I did I couldn't lose anymore and was still overweight. I'd get discouraged and give up and gain all that I'd lost back. When I got pregnant with my first child I had high sugar readings (age 30). When my son was a year old I was officially diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and put on oral medication. As time went on it just got worse and by age 40 I was on Fat Storing Hormone and on two different blood pressure medications. In 2004 I began taking care of my mother who had Rheumatoid Arthritis and kept falling. I was trying to work a full-time job, do my husband's books for his business, take care of my parents and my handicapped son. So stress out the roof! About a month after my mom passed away in 2008 one morning I thought I was not going to be able to get out of bed! I was at my all-time highest weight of 209 and I was all beat up as well. I decided I had to do something. I started dieting again and walking. I got some weight off but again did not have the right information to succeed. I started a Paleo diet in 2014 and did pretty well. I lost 60 lbs and managed to keep it off for about a year. But again I got stuck at 158 and could not lose any further. I found Dr. Berg's videos when my husband began having horrible stomach pain and the Dr's wanted to remove his gallbladder. He started doing research and found Dr. Berg's video on the subject. He immediately went on the kale smoothie and started feeling better and losing weight. He insisted I look at the video and I was so impressed with Dr. Berg. I thought to myself, "this man really explains the way our bodies work!" I began watching, learning, and applying his eating plan. I started taking his supplements and it began to work. At first, the big salads did not work for me. I would get diarrhea and then started getting bad stomach cramps. Kale was working! But, every time I had an issue I would go to his videos and watch is live shows. I only called in once at the very beginning with a dumb question. But I always got my answer to problems I ran into because someone would always ask the very question I needed the answer to. When I begin doing Keto I weighed 191 (didn't gain all back after Paleo). My goal was to reach 120. I started with 3 meals no snacks. Moved on to two meals then two for 3 days, 1 for 3 days and repeat. I have been on one meal for 4 months. I have 4 pounds to reach my goal. I have not cheated one time since I begin the program. When I loose the last 4 pounds I will have lost 71 lbs. I feel great, I feel strong and I have confidence that eventually I will heal my body. My sugars are still a little high. I know it will take time because I have been a serious diabetic for 28 years but I plan to keep working on it. I do the acupuncture massage technique religiously every night! I take almost all Dr Berg's supplements as well as some he has recommended. I've been dealing with a stressful situation with my son's health recently and I'm trying to work on that. It has been affecting my sleep! The holidays and extreme cold weather has made it difficult to walk which is what I need most right now! Will continue to work on that! Enjoying the recipes. Made the sugar-free pecan pie for Thanksgiving as well as for Christmas! Loved it!!! THANK YOU Dr. Berg for giving me the tools to get to my goal at last! Deby
