Leanne Tornatore's Story

Images Story

By: Leanne Tornatore

A Google search on the keto diet led Leanne Tornatore to Dr. Berg. She purchased his adrenal kit, sleeping pills, and lemon wheatgrass juice. She loved them all.

But Tornatore’s weight loss journey hasn’t been easy.

Her biggest frustration with her keto transformation has been the slow (but fairly steady) pace. In the first two weeks of keto, she lost a whopping 22 pounds (10 kg) but after that, things came to a halt. She went from two meals a day to one but she struggled to get enough calories. And still she felt like her weight loss was moving at a snail’s pace.

Many people experience a weight-loss plateau at some point on keto. Tornatore seemed to fit that pattern. There was a time when she was just seeing small fluctuations, up and down. “I would lose 2 to 5 pounds and then gain it back,” she explained. But then, just when she might have decided that nothing at all was happening, she saw change: “...eventually I’d see that the lower number on the scale in those fluctuations became the higher one. It was happening, just slowly.”

Despite her frustration about her weight-loss pace, she was feeling better and saw other improvements that motivated her to keep going. Before keto, Tornatore experienced heart palpitations, thinking she had AFib at times. Those totally vanished within days of starting keto. Her acid reflux subsided and her breathing troubles ceased. Her heels have healed and her dry skin is clearing up. “My age spots are even getting less brown,” she said. “And all moles are thinning out and getting smaller.”

Tornatore worried about skin sagging after losing weight, but she found that with keto, her skin is shrinking. “Fat is coming off places it never did before,” she said.

“I did get a rash, though that eventually subsided. But I also seem to be losing some hair – I’m taking so many supplements to try and stop it.”

When she feels discouraged, she reaches out to her eldest son, who is doing keto with her after being diagnosed with diabetes. He helps her stay on track at those times. “I also look at old pictures and remember how badly I felt,” she said.

Since starting keto in January 2018,  Tornatore has lost 60 pounds (27 kg). “The reason I finally decided to do something was watching my husband go through cancer and have a horrible, rough two years. I knew this too would be my fate if I continued down the road I was on. So, I think of all that every time I want to give up. I want to live!”

Favorite Way to Exercise: Doing chores, mowing the lawn, and parking at the end of the parking lot

Favorite Keto Recipe: “I keep it simple,” says Tornatore.
