Steffanie Bradley's Story

Images Story

By: Steffanie Bradley

Steffanie Bradley’s competitive nature kicked in when a coworker challenged her to lose 30 pounds in 3 months. She was 5’2” and weighed 216 pounds (98 kg) at that time. When this same coworker suggested Bradley join Dr. Berg’s Facebook group to help her reach that goal, she had nothing to lose (except weight!).

Like many others, she had tried to lose pounds for years. It was always a challenge being the only one in her household with this goal. “I would have to make two meals, one for myself and one for my husband and kids,” she explained. “It was too hard to eat healthy when my family was eating pizza, pasta and bread.” But once her youngest child moved out, Bradley’s husband was on board for whatever diet she chose. “Having his support made a world of difference. I wasn’t tempted near as often.”

Although she struggled with temptations and had little cheats here and there, Bradley was motivated by the progress she saw. After a year of keto she’s lost 42 pounds (19 kg). “My self-esteem increased, my knees don’t hurt from arthritis anymore, and my doctor said I can stop taking blood pressure medication,” she said. “I kept going because I could see the results, in how I felt and on the scale, every week.”

For Bradley, Dr. Berg’s Facebook page is a safe space full of people going through the same things. She feels like everyone in that community has an understanding of her weight-loss journey that others just wouldn’t comprehend.

“If I could do things over again, I would have been more consistent with my diet,” says Bradley. “[But] when you fall, get back up and keep going. This journey is a way of life and the health benefits outweigh the short-term joy of a piece of cake or a dinner roll.”

Bradley still has 30 pounds (14 kg) to go before reaching her goal. With Dr. Berg’s tips and her competitive spirit, she’s “sure she can achieve anything she sets her mind to,” on this journey to health.

Favorite Way to Exercise: Bradley made it a goal to walk 20,000 steps a day. “I can walk while listening to music, watching TV or even reading on my iPad,” she says. “The same things I would be doing if I were just sitting.”
