Mark Nichols's Story

At 51, Mark Nichols had already been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. He was searching the Internet for information on the keto diet and came across Dr. Berg’s videos. Since then, Dr. Berg has been his biggest support system on the keto journey.

“I watched [the videos] every day to learn as much as I could,” he said. “I’m very happy with how things are going. I made a few mistakes along the way but they are nothing more than learning experiences.”

For Nichols, the hardest part of keto was breaking his food addiction. He didn’t realize how addicted to sugar he was and that it wasn’t in his best interest to do “dirty keto.”

“It’s all about the good fats and getting your electrolytes,” he said.

Before, Nichols hated looking at himself in pictures. He suffered from inflammation and achy joints.

“I feel so much better,” he said. “The best part is I am losing weight so fast that it keeps me motivated. I am almost down to the weight I got married at. It really feels good when someone, especially [my] kids, tell me that I’m doing great.”

Since starting keto, Nichols has lost 35 pounds (16 kg) in four months.

To those thinking about embarking on a keto journey, he had this to say: “Give up your food addictions [and] develop a new relationship with your food. Learn what foods work best for your body. God gave you your body, it’s your responsibility to take care of it. Don’t take that gift for granted.”

Favorite Way to Exercise: “I really haven’t exercised,” said Nichols. “I know that’s bad but I really wanted to see if I could do it with diet alone.”
