Maricarmen Bandin's story

By: Maricarmen Bandin

Maricarmen Bandin had an accidental weight loss journey. Desperate to find a solution for her young asthmatic daughter, she realized it was necessary to make a major change in her family’s eating habits.

Her daughter’s asthma medication had provoked a heart murmur. Ridding her daughter of medications became Bandin’s goal. But once she started learning about how food could change her own life too, she never looked back. “The way I see it is [that] our desperation in saving her ultimately saved us,” she said.

Within a span of about two years, the Bandins went vegan. (Now, due to iron deficiencies, Bandin does include fish in her meals.) She supports others interested in plant-based diets, conducting 21-day challenges with her friends.

But Dr. Berg’s advice still holds strong for her.

After a friend introduced Bandin to Dr. Berg’s videos, she learned more and more about her own health issues and how to address them. Although the Bandin family was struggling with high calcium levels, acid reflux, and tooth damage due to scleroderma, Dr. Berg’s tips helped move them into a fully medication-free life.

Of course the family faced setbacks along the way, but their weight loss and new outlook on life speak for themselves. “I feel clear, happy, energized, sexy, accomplished and blessed,” Bandin said. “Honestly, I wish I would’ve just done it sooner!”

Although Bandin may do things differently than many of Dr. Berg’s viewers, she did what worked for her. She was true to Dr. Berg’s advice that every body is unique and should be treated as such.

With her story, she hopes to inspire others to believe that no matter how you go about it, weight loss and a better life are possible.
