Keith Marlin's Story

Images Story

By: Keith Marlin

From hospitalizations to homelessness, Keith Marlin’s journey is about much more than weight loss. Finding Dr. Berg’s videos and choosing a keto lifestyle have given him the mental clarity to take his life back. He feels empowered again because of the change in his eating habits.

Before keto, Marlin recalls feeling depressed and disorganized. He started gaining weight after moving back and forth between Texas and Delaware. His community involvement dwindled, and the external difficulties of his life were interspersed with panic attacks and unsettling hallucinations. He went to the hospital and decided to try medication for his symptoms.

“I tried a lot of different meds,” Marlin said. “They just made me feel numb and gain weight.” He was also pursuing a career in the Air Force, giving him another reason he wanted to get off the medication. He was successful in getting off the meds, but had no long-term plan to deal with stress without them. Marlin was hospitalized again, where he was put back on meds. His diet became eating anything he craved.

Family stress led to homelessness, which led to another hospitalization. But soon after finding a new home, he found keto as well. Although at first his friends and family were cautious, eventually they were supportive of Marlin’s keto transition.

“The hardest part was being patient and consistent,” he said. “But the best part was knowing I earned it and will be able to maintain it.”

From Dr. Berg’s videos, Marlin learned to interpret the seemingly random signals his body was giving him. The keto diet resulted in enough immediate improvement to keep him motivated. Since December 2017, he has lost nearly 60 pounds (27 kg) and he has gone off all his medications. He is more stable and happy than ever before.

“I feel in control of my life and the direction I’m headed while supporting my mind and body to succeed!” Marlin says.
