Karen Ray's Story

Karen Ray began to struggle with her weight when her mother passed away in 2015. In her sadness, Ray slipped into an unhealthy diet and stopped working out. She gained 34 pounds (15 kg) during that time.

In 2018, she decided she needed a change. Ray tried a “bodybuilding” diet that consisted of high protein, low fat, and complex carbs. She also started working out three to four times a week but despite all her effort, she only lost 8 pounds (3 kg) in three months.

“It was very disappointing to put in the work, but not see any major results,” she said. Then she found keto. She committed to sticking with it in January 2019. “I said, enough is enough. It’s time to make a change. This time go 100%. So that’s what I did.”

Ray found Dr. Berg after a friend recommended his video called “How to Fix a Slow Metabolism.” Some of the major lessons she learned from Dr. Berg include not eating if you’re not hungry, avoiding snacks between meals, getting enough sleep, avoiding stress, and combining keto and intermittent fasting for quicker results.

“Dr. Berg’s videos truly helped me learn how to do healthy keto and intermittent fasting the right way,” said Ray. “The more I watched Dr. Berg’s videos, the more encouraged I got to keep going.”

For her, the hardest part of keto was ignoring the naysayers and sticking to her newfound healthier diet when the people around her continued to follow the traditional American diet. But she said that eventually she got used to it.

Now she feels energetic, not sluggish as she did before keto. She said that the best part of keto is how good she feels.

“Now some of my friends call me the Energizer Bunny as I have a lot of energy. Even when I don’t get much sleep, I still have a lot of energy and mental clarity,” she said. “I am back to myself again. I love the way I feel with keto.”

By committing to herself 100%, Ray was able to stay motivated and achieve results. In only three months, she lost 25 pounds (11 kg).

“This is your journey and you are ultimately the only one that can make it happen,” she advised. “You can’t change people around you, but you can make the changes yourself. I vowed to never give up until I start seeing results even if it takes me a whole year. I kept my vision of being at my ideal weight and knowing the feeling I’ll have once I reached my goal. I was no longer going to accept being overweight. That’s what kept me going to not give up. To be fit, happy, and healthy.”
