Jason Shepard's Story

Images Story

By: Jason Shepard

Jason Shepard was sick and tired of being sick and tired. He felt like the world treated him differently as an overweight person and he wanted to attract a healthy person to be in a healthy relationship with.

He did the Atkins diet about 20 years ago and was successful, but as soon as he reintroduced carbs, he felt awful and most of his health problems returned.

“My cousin introduced me to keto about a year and half ago,” he said. “[From Dr. Berg I learned] that keto and weight loss aren’t perfect. You have to listen to your body and really dial things in to get the results you want.”

The hardest parts of keto for Shepard were the transition to low-carb food and dealing with hunger pains while fasting. “Sleep is really hard when you are hungry,” he said. “Going out to eat with people and having to explain your diet [is also hard].”

However, with keto, not only did he lose weight, but also he found that a lot of his health problems went away. He physically feels “way, way better.” And the best part is twofold: being able to wear smaller clothes and feeling better about himself.

Since starting keto, Shepard has lost between 70 and 75 pounds (32 and 34 kg). He said that it’s great to be able to maintain the weight without starving himself.

When the going got tough, he stayed motivated by being single and lonely. Another motivation: he would recall “how crappy he felt before he started keto.” The only things he would have done differently are make an earlier start and do it more slowly.
