Ingredients

  • 6 bacon slices
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 sweet onion large, chopped
  • teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 head of cabbage large, shredded

Instructions

  • In large saute pan, cook 6 bacon over medium heat until browned. Once done, remove bacon, leaving grease in pan.
  • Add onion to pan and fry for 10 minutes until browned.
  • Create well in center of pan and add 4 garlic cloves. Sauté for one minute, then mix in 1 sweet onion. Season with 1½ teaspoon sea salt, ½ teaspoon paprika, and ¼ teaspoon black pepper.

  • Add 1 head of cabbage to pan and cook for 15 to 25 minutes until tender, adding in batches if necessary.

  • While cabbage is cooking, chop or crumble bacon. Once cabbage is done, stir in crispy bacon.

Notes

  • Turkey bacon can be substituted for pork bacon.
  • For a more aromatic flavor, add red pepper flakes, onion powder, garlic powder, or cumin.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the bacon grease from the pan and drain on a paper towel to avoid clogging your sink drain.
  • You can save bacon fat to use for other dishes, such as frying eggs or seasoning vegetables.
