Mike Smith didn’t get heavy overnight and he definitely didn’t lose the weight overnight. But with patience and persistence, Smith has lost a total of 55 pounds on the keto lifestyle.
Before keto, Smith lacked energy and suffered from a long list of health problems. Removing his gallbladder didn’t improve them. And sleep apnea was taking over his life. In 2017, his weight peaked at 240 pounds and he decided he needed a change.
In June of that year, Smith found Dr. Berg’s videos and began his keto journey. “I've had a few bumps in the road,” he said. “But I am on a straight and narrow path now.” If there were anything he’d do differently, he said, it would be adding intermittent fasting into his routine sooner.
Fortunately, he had the support of his wife, whose encouraging words helped him along. But beyond that Smith saw the positive changes in himself that encouraged him and kept him motivated. Now, he has amazing energy all day and he no longer uses a CPAP machine for sleep apnea. Both are major accomplishments, in addition to his substantial weight loss.
“If you read my story, started this, and then fell off the wagon, I would encourage you to get back on,” Smith says. “The reward is well worth it.”
Favorite Way to Exercise: He started off walking an hour a day, five days a week. Now, he runs three days a week and does calisthenics two days a week.
Favorite Keto Recipe: Keto French Toast topped with blueberries and whipped cream. “Amazing!” says Smith.
