A routine calcium heart scan prompted Glenn Blankenship’s keto journey; the results showed he had a 99% blockage—at just 47 years old. “I know how silly it sounds, but I thought I was in good health,” Blankenship said. “Besides being overweight, I had zero symptoms.”
After receiving an immediate heart stent and the urging of the doctor to get his weight in check, he started doing research. He says “thank god” he came across Dr. Berg, to whom he credits 100 percent of his success.
He had heard of keto before, but figured it was the same as any other restrictive diet and “too good to be true.” But after learning about the lifestyle and fasting through Dr. Berg, he decided to try it for himself. “[Dr. Berg’s] style of teaching fit perfectly for me because it was simple yet so informative,” said Blankenship. “[I] love how he doesn’t try to use big medical jargon to impress people; he talks on a level I can understand.”
Even though he says he’s still in shock that everything he thought he knew about food was wrong, Blankenship wishes someone had told him about keto years ago. “Since I never really had this kind of success in the past, doing the opposite should make sense!” he exclaimed. “I feel like a fanatic because I just have to tell people [about keto].”
In only six months, Blankenship has lost around 140 pounds (64 kg), going from 300 pounds (136 kg) to 160 pounds (73 kg). The story of his keto journey, which began after doctors warned him of more blockages in his heart, will add a new episode when he hears what they say at his next appointment.
