Don Burzynski realized he needed to make a change when his legs began to fill with fluid. He was overweight and taking beta blockers to control his blood pressure.
His son recommended Dr. Berg’s videos because Burzynski was showing symptoms of liver problems. On June 1, 2019, at 66 years old, he began intermittent fasting on a keto diet. For 17 days, he ate one meal a day with an 18-hour fast each day. Using this method he found he was losing one pound per day.
“On Father’s Day, June 17th, my family took me out to eat at an Italian restaurant; even though it was my only meal, it wasn’t a keto meal and I gained two pounds,” said Burzynski. “Disappointed in my weight gain, I remembered Dr. Berg suggested that fasting longer- term was helpful in ‘breaking through’ lactose intolerance and so I decided to fast all day on the Monday following Father’s Day to make up for my weight gain.”
He also recalled Dr. Berg’s advice to only eat when hungry. For the rest of the week, Burzynski continued his fast since he didn’t have the urge to eat.
As a religious man, Burzynski ended up following in his Lord Jesus Christ’s footsteps and continued this complete fast for 40 days.
“As I approached day 40, my weight loss combined with the preceding 17 days of intermittent fasting [at] one meal a day would have been 57 pounds (26 kg),” he said. “At that point, I decided I wanted to lose 60 pounds (27 kg) and so I continued to fast three extra days, for a total of 43 days of absolute fasting.”
On day 60 of his keto journey, Burzynski went to his doctor, curious to see how fasting had affected his health. His blood pressure was 108/62, his BMI had changed from 36.5 to 21.2, his cholesterol had dropped from 213 to 170. And his belt confirmed that he had lost eight inches from his waist.
In total, Burzynski had lost 60 pounds (27 kg) in 60 days.
“I am feeling amazing and healthier than I could have ever imagined, and look great,” he said. “[If I could do it all over again, I would have] done it much sooner in my life.”
Now, Burzynski does intermittent fasting regularly to maintain his weight and his health.
