The 10 Causes of Inflammation

author avatar Dr. Eric Berg 08/31/2023

Inflammation comes in different shapes and sizes. Generally, the causes of inflammation vary and depend on a number of factors.  Among these factors are low cortisol, trauma, sugar, grains, vegetable oil, alcohol, dairy, MSG, excessive protein, excessive cooked food, and high alkalinity.

When you have low cortisol, your body doesn’t have enough anti-inflammatory capabilities. Too much sugar leads to Fat Storing Hormone resistance, in which inflammation is one common manifestation.

Grains that contain gluten triggers inflammation in the gut. High alkalinity causes allergies. Vegetable oils like corn, soy, safflower, and sunflower oil contain high levels of Omega-6, which is also present in many commercial dairy products. Monosodium glutamate, popularly known as the MSG, is a neurotoxin that enhances the flavors of food.

Undigested proteins will strain the liver and kidneys, which can ultimately lead to gout. Varying your food intake as cooked, canned, or pasteurized foods will help lessen your chances of inflammation.

Food processing and certain cooking methods can destroy the enzymes needed by the body to digest well and get rid of toxins.
