Can I Eat These on a Ketogenic Diet?

When you’re in a particular dietary preference, distinguishing the foods to eat from a myriad of must-nots can be distressing.

On a ketogenic diet, you eat low-carb foods to force your body to burn fat fast. This means that when there’s not enough carbohydrates and protein in your body, ketones from the liver will serve as your source of energy instead.

To be successful when doing a ketogenic diet, you have to  remember to limit your carb and protein intake. We all know that when taking this particular diet plan, grains, sugar, tubers, and certain fruits must be avoided.

But what about certain vegetables?

There’s a lot of confusion about whether some vegetables should be included in a ketogenic diet or not, so here’s a quick summary:

Beets – Beets are high in potassium, but they are also high in carbs and sugar. It has a good amount of fiber to buffer the sugar, but they’re NOT a good idea if you want to go into ketosis.

Carrots – They have lower carbs and sugar than beets and some fiber, so carrots are OKAY  to eat on a ketogenic diet.

Peas – Peas have plenty of protein and fiber, but they also have a high level of sugar. It’s bette NOT  to include them.

Tomato – Tomatoes are better to be consumed than the other vegetables above, so like carrots, they’re OKAY to eat on a ketogenic diet.

Potatoes, corn, and artichokes – These high-carbohydrate vegetables should NOT be eaten on a ketogenic diet, especially if you’re trying to lose weight.

Wheatgrass is healthy, but is it okay to include in a keto meal? If yes, how should we eat it? Fruits are rich in natural sugar, but what fruits are allowed on ketogenic diets? What can you drink aside from water?
