Are Low Calorie Diets Making Us Fat?

What is it in food that makes us skinny? Is it really the amount of calories per unit of food?  I  mean after all, excessive calories turn into fat, right? Or do they?

I recently learned a completely new idea from Dr. Berg’s website on findyourbodytype.com that  I wanted to share with you.

Dr. Berg claims that, “People don’t lose weight and get healthy; they first must get healthy  before losing weight”; now let that sink in. That’s heavy information.  This makes total sense  because I have relatives that can eat more than any of us and they never gain an ounce and the  rest us looks at food and we all gain 10 pounds over night.

Dr. Berg states that what creates health has not to do with calories, but the nutrients in those  calories – nutrients being vitamins and minerals. The derivation of word food comes from  Latin for ‘nourishment’ and nutrients are the things in food that gives us nourishment.

However, due to the severe drop in nutrients in our foods over the last decade, which by the  way corresponds with the exact rise in obesity, it is becoming more difficult to get even the  minimum amount of RDAs in our diet. To get your daily RDAs for potassium, you would have to  consume 10 bananas. And then to make it worse, many people take synthetic vitamins, which  come from petroleum, not food.

What does an unsuspecting person do to attempt weight loss?

They follow the mainstream recommendations – portion control, cutting calories. From a  nutrient viewpoint, this is starvation. Dr. Berg says that the body will hold fat as a protective  mechanism if it doesn’t get nutrients.

I noticed on Dr. Berg’s website, he had a product called Berg Essentials, which initially turned me  off, because I thought it was another sales pitch to get me to buy more pills. But what got me  interested was his list of ingredients. They were all food based, but it was extremely high  nutrient-based foods. You don’t see the typical chemical binders, only foods and organic. I then  compared this to my vitamins and none of them listed any food ingredients despite saying they  were all natural. So I called the company to find out that 90% of the ingredients I have been  taking were made synthetically (from petroleum). The company said legally they could claim it  was natural if it had 10% natural in it. This really upset me, especially since the guy on the phone  said that there is no difference between natural and synthetic, a chemical is a chemical.

Dr. Berg mentioned that in nature vitamins never come in individual parts like in synthetics but  in complexes. And the only reason someone would sell synthetics is because they are so  inexpensive and so much more profit to be made.

If you want a quality vitamin, I would definitely give Dr. Berg’s Berg Essentials a try.
